Calculate the slope using the slope formula
m = (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
m = (5-(-1))/(-6-(-8))
m = (5+1)/(-6+8)
m = 6/2
m = 3
The slope is 3

The point your teacher uses is (-6,5) because of the y-5. Note how it's in the form y-y1 where y1 = 5

So (x1,y1) = (-6,5)

Point Slope Form
y-y1 = m(x-x1)
y-5 = 3(x-(-6))
y-5 = 3(x+6)

The equation in point slope form is
y-5 = 3(x+6)

So you'll type 3(x+6) into the box
