Jenny made $289 for hours 17 of work. At the same rate, how much would she make for 12 hours of work?

Write and solve an equation of ratios:

12         x

----- = -----------

17       $289

Cross multiplying results in 17x = 3460, or x = $3460/17 = $204.

Jenny would make $204 for 12 hours of work.
