Kendra had twice as much money as kareem. Kendra later spent $8 and kareem earned $6. By then,the two had the same amount of money. How much money did each have originally?

Answer:

x = 2y

x - 8 = y + 6

replace x by 2y in the second equation

2y - 8 = y + 6

y - 8 = 6

y = 14

x = 2*14 = 28

Kendra had $28 and Kareem had $14.
