To simply determine the second number in the sequence, here's a simple way to get it:
Simply divide 270 by 5. 
270/5 is 54. Make 54 as your middle number:
___, ___, 54, ___, ___ .

The two numbers before 54 are: 52 and 53.
the two numbers after 54 are: 55 and 56.
that makes: 52, 53, 54, 55, 56.
sum up the 5 consecutive numbers:
52 + 53 + 54 + 55 + 56 = 270
Thus, the second number in the sequence is 53.
