What arguments does paine use to support the notion that the american colonies would be better off as an independent nation?

Paine says that the colonies have little to gain from remaining attached to Britain and commerce can actually be better conducted with the rest of Europe if independence is gained. He argued that the colonies didn't actually need Britain any more and that Britain only wanted them to remain in order to benefit themselves.
