Since it reads 0 and 312 thousandths, you would simply place 1000 as the denominator. if it reads hundredths, put 100 as the denominator. if it reads tenths, put 10 as the denominator.

Here are the steps:

1. 0.312 is the same as 312/1000

2. Find the GCF of 312,1000 and that would be 8

3. divide both the numerator and denominator by the GCF (which is 8) so 312/8/1000/8.

4. Lastly simplify. And the answer is 39/125.
