In late 1944, food rations at Bergen-Belsen began to reduce. Prisoners would go without food and water for long with both coming in short supply. Similarly, sanitation facilities were very few with few latrines serving tens of thousands of prisoners. These conditions led to the outbreak of diseases such as typhoid fever, typhus, dysentery and tuberculosis. Very many prisoners lost their lives during this period.
