Well firstly, a sequence of three nitrogen bases, is called a codon, in which each codon codes for a specific amino acid.

If a base is deleted, as is the case of a mutation is called a deletion.

The order in which the nitorgenous bases were in, will be disturbed and therefore the entire protein molecule being coded for will be changed.
