How much should governments provide economic equality for their citizens?

It really depends on your viewpoint although there is a body of thinking that is evolving that says that Government's main role is to provide safety and stability and that the ensuring of economic equality further provides safety and security for the citizenry, enabling businesses to do more without worrying that their employees are too tired or hungry to function.
