Why did the settlers to Jamestown as the site for their colony

Jamestown just seemed like the ideal location to the settlers. It was an easily defendable location, as it was higher than sea level and gave them a good view of their surrounds, and they were near the sea and rivers, which allowed for a plentiful supply of freshwater and convenient transportation.
