m + 8 = ± [tex]\sqrt{72}[/tex] = ± [tex]\sqrt{36(2)}[/tex] = ± 6[tex]\sqrt{2}[/tex]

Subtract 8 from both sides

m = - 8 ± 6[tex]\sqrt{2}[/tex]
