Answer:

Theodor was a very good stratagist, he decided to take to the battlefeild because in the army they say a "soldiers veiw" is diffrent then if you were anywhere else.  He wanted to lead his army to victory in person, which gave him an advantage also because it was much easier to convey orders directly then from sitting in a desk, and being a soldier was an act of honor something that would frame him to be not as the other presidents, to make him remembered.
