What is catalyst?

Catalyst are those species which are added on the reaction to alter the rate of the reaction without being involved in the reaction.

Catalyst are of two types:

  • Positive catalyst: It increases the rate of the reaction.
  • Negative catalyst: It decreases the rate of the reaction.

Hence, catalyst is used to change the rate of the reaction.
