A mutation is a change in the DNA sequence.

There are several types of mutations that can occur in DNA:

- Mutations because DNA copying mistakes during cell division;

- Exposure to ionizing radiation;

- Exposure to chemicals (matagens chemicals);

- Exposure to infections;

- Genetic mutations (can be passed on to offspring by the parents).

We can say that are two big groups of origins for DNA's mutations, those arising from internal problems in the cell machinery and for external problems, being somatic or genetic.
