Food is the energy, measured in kilocalories that the body uses to perform only its most essential activities. This is also referred as nutritional energy. It is a chemical energy that organisms derive from food through the process of cellular respiration. Humans and animals need a minimum amount of calories in order to sustain their metabolism and move their muscles. The units of energy are the calories.
