In witch two ways do extras function in a drama

Extras are minor players who don't speak many lines, and are the opposite of the lead characters. The lead characters are the focus of the story and have the most lines and scenes, whereas extras have very little roles and do not always even have lines, they can be passerby or just as parts of the background that require lots of people.
